ביו-אקוסטיקה בצמחים

אנחנו מקליטים צלילים הנפלטים מצמח עגבנייה תחת עקת יובש, בסביבה המדמה תנאי שדה בגן הבוטני. צלילים אלה הינם אולטראסוניים ועוברים באוויר. אנחנו בוחנים האם באפשרותינו להפריד צלילים אלה מצלילי רקע טבעיים של סביבת הגן הבוטני ללא צמח העגבניה תחת עקת יובש.

We are recording ultrasonic airborne sounds of stressed tomato plants in TAU Botanic Garden and testing the possibility of distinguishing drought-stressed and control tomato plants based only on the sounds they emit.

For that purpose, we will construct a new library of outdoor noises from the Botanic Garden and from a Mediterranean grove and train our ANN model to distinguish them from tomato plants under stress.

In addition to providing valuable insights into ecology and evolution, new acoustic methods for monitoring plant stress could have practical implications regarding plant monitoring in agriculture.
