Biotechnology - MSc Study
Admission
Students who have completed an undergraduate degree in life sciences, natural sciences, agriculture, food engineering, or engineering with a final grade of 80 or above may be admitted to graduate studies in biotechnology. All students will pass an admission committee which, as necessary, may require them to take supplementary courses during their master's degree studies. Students should choose one of the faculty members as their thesis advisor.
Students wishing to register for studies in the biotechnology track must have basic knowledge in the different fields of life sciences - biochemistry, microbiology, genetics and immunology. Completion of these basic studies, if required, will be during the first year.
Preliminary requirements
One of the five laboratories: immunology, biochemistry, microbiology, cellular biology, genetics (not a particular laboratory)
Program of studies
The study program as detailed here is intended for students whose undergraduate degree is in life sciences or a similar subject (such as agriculture). Students from other fields (such as chemistry or engineering) will have a personal program put together according to their previous studies and taking into account their areas of interest.
Studies for a master's degree - 30 semester hours
Required faculty courses - 10 s/h
Safety in the Laboratory course (during the first year of studies) – no credit
Guided reading and discussion in research groups – 2 s/h
Departmental seminar for MSc students – each student will participate in the seminar given by the Department in which he performs his research – 2 s/h each year
One of the courses:
- Biostatistics – 4 s/h
- Statistical principles in experimental biology – 4 s/h
